Maria Boyd is a contemporary Watercolour Artist based in a small home studio in Western Park, Leicester, with a large city park on her doorstep.

Maria grew up near Edinburgh in Scotland where she attained a Degree in Textile Design and moved to the East Midlands to work in the textile industry. She lives with her husband and Alfie their Labradoodle and has three grown up children.

She creates highly stylized original watercolour and ink paintings. Her preferred subject is nature and wildlife and this is juxtaposed against a riot of pattern all brought together with her distinct colour palette.

Her inspiration comes from the landscape of her native Scotland to the ancient meadows of England and all the gardens, parks and pavements in-between. She enjoys travelling, and likes to bring little bits of her travels back into her paintings, recent travels to Venice and Seville have sparked an interest in the Moorish influences discovered within the cities. She translates and reimagines the surrounding Flora and Fauna into a highly decorative forms using the patterns and geometry contained in nature.

Maria is a member of the Leicester Society of Artists and regularly has work in Ferrers Gallery in Staunton Harold, We Are Gallery in Leicester and Dotty Gallery in Twyford.

“Nothing gives me greater pleasure than coming home from a walk clutching a bunch of leaves and or desiccated weed heads that has sparked my interest. Pattern plays a huge part in my work and I enjoy juxta posing natural forms with highly patterned grounds.”
